The Dendrological Society of the Eastern Cape or, The Tree Society of the Eastern Cape, is based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Atalaya is it’s official name but most of the members refer to it as the “Dendro Society,” for the sake of simplicity. It consists of of a group of individuals who have an extremely passionate and enthusiastic interest in trees and woody shrubs.

Our mission is to promote the knowledge, protection and propagation of trees and the preservation of tree-dominated ecosystems as a contribution to effective environmental conservation and improvement in South Africa.
Our main objective is the promotion of dendrological knowledge of its members as a contribution to personal enrichment through mainly outings as well as lectures and courses.

The Committee consists of a chairman, Lloyd Edwards, secretary, Carla Hazel, organizer, Jenny Eldridge and webmaster Roger Williams.
